Hi Sally & Kevin,

Just thought I'd let you know that Hector is getting on fine although I'm sure he's really only seven months old, not seven years!!
He's completely crazy, destroys everything plastic and paper that I forget to put away before I go out, has permanently got a toy in his mouth unless he's sleeping (or I'm watching television!!) and he never ever when he's awake, stops wagging his tail.
Also, he likes running in the muddiest bits of the garden and then coming in and scraping his feet on my cream carpet! He puts snot up the window where he presses his nose up against it to look out! He's left marks on the walls where he regularly rests his feet and pushes himself around the room! He spits food up the kitchen units when he's eating!  I could go on and on forever ....
At the end of the day, I can forgive him as he makes me laugh and I wouldn't change him for the world.  Only wish Ellie my other greyhound would stop looking at him as if she would rather him not be here!!

Dear Kevin and Sally

Just to let you know Camokee (Martha) is settling in nicely - we knew she had made it the first time she laid on the sofa with all four legs in the air snoring her head off.

We are absolutely bowled over by her - even Badger now he realises she can run.

Merry Christmas and many thanks for Camokee.

Dear Sallly and Kevin,

Merry Christmas to you guys too! We love our Jasmine so much! She is a real angel!!!

We still have to work with her about our food situation, where she always wants our food! But other than that, she is still our angel!

 Thank-you for our Christmas card!

The Gerardo family.

Thank you and thank you very much for the lovely card!

Sooty has settled in SO well with our family and we can’t imagine life without her – we are looking forward to a Christmas of long walks!

Jenny, Andrew, Basil and Sooty

And a merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Kevin.  Look forward to meeting again soon.  Sweetie says her muscles have let down enough now to allow her to sit for a few moments even though greyhounds are not supposed to be able to!

Regards Margaret and Sweetie

Awww, thanks Sally – that’s lovely!  Wishing you, Kevin, the girls and of course Belle & Smokie a very Happy Christmas and a healthy, joyous New Year.

Can’t tell you how much we’re enjoying having Kenzo – she really is such a little poppet. Haven’t laughed so much in ages at her various daft antics!  But she’s being a really good girl, clean in the house and although up to a certain amount of mischief, nothing we can’t deal with.  Jay is dealing with it all with an amazing amount of understanding, think he’s quite enjoying having some doggy company again.

All the best to you all.

Hi Sally,

I'm not sure if either you or Kev tried to ring us today but we've been in and out a lot today. So I thought I'd send you a quick email to let you know how amber is getting on.

I think her settling in period was about 5 seconds. She immediately explored the garden at full pelt and then the house. We'd had a clearout last week during which we threw away the toys that Soupie had never played with. Mainly because they were so dirty and tatty and we figured we'd buy Amber new ones. But she wanted them so she pulled them all out of the bin and proceded to throw them around the living room. She pinches our shoes and leaves them in her bed, but she's yet to actually chew anything. Her and Soupie seem to get along fine though there have been one or two crossed words when she gets too playful and he gets a bit fed up with it. But considering how much she jumps all over him, despite our efforts to stop her, Soupie is being very patient with her and we're very proud of him. Once growled at she leaves him alone and plays with her toys instead. The stairs don't appear to be a problem as she runs up and down them as if she were running along flat ground.  Soupie's never gone up the stairs so we didn't expect Amber too either.

Imagine my surprise when I came out of the bathroom to find a little black dog looking at me!
There was a little accident in the living room yesterday but there haven't been any since and she and Soupie were left on their own for most of this afternoon. She got through the night without any problems, there wasn't a sound made by either of them the whole night.

All in all she's a gorgeous little pup and seems to be quite happily settling in. I've attached some pictures of her first couple of days and will be sure to keep you posted on how she's getting on. I believe there's a greyhound walk after Christmas which Dad and i will most likely be attending with the dogs so we may see you there.

Hope you have a great Christmas.

 Paula.

Dear Sally and Kev,

As it is New Year's Eve I thought that I had better be in touch to let you know how I am doing.
It's really great here. My humans keep saying things like "He's such a good boy" and "He's settled down so quickly". Other flattering phrases include "He's so laid back" and "He's so good with the girls".
I have got the hang of the routine pretty quickly - even tho' I say so myself. At night time we all sleep in the same room on our cosy beds and we have our new fleeces on at the moment because it's cold. I am very good at sleeping in in the morning but eventually we have to get up and go in the garden.
We usually have breakfast next and then a lovely walk over the fields. We have different coats to wear then. I have kept my muzzle on for those walks because we meet lots of other dogs. I feel a bit apprehensive about some of them 'cos they don't look very much like greyhounds. But mummy says I have been a good boy and she gives me lots of pats when we walk past. (I think that's 'cos she's pleased that I haven't growled).
I love my three girls. I curled up on the sofa with Lady one day and then Chips the next. Chips can be a bit growly at food time and I don't think she likes me having too much attention from mummy because, after all, she is the baby of the family. The otheres understand tho' and they smile a lot. Lady is so relaxed that she lays on the sofa on her back with her legs in the air. Today I decided that I would have a go and it was very comfy.
It is so great here because everyone we meet seems to really like us.
We get lots of treats and pats and it is very warm and cosy. The children can be a bit noisy sometimes but I just smile and wander past. There is always quiet corner somewhere. My specially big eyes have come in handy and I have already started to train my humans with my different expressions and signals and my woofy language.
I hope that you have a good New Year's eve. I am a little worried about Tessy because she absolutely hates fireworks. I'm o.k. 'tho' so I will try to look after her.

Will talk to you soon.

Lots of licks,

Hello Sally and Kev and everyone at the kennels,

Well - I've been here for three and a half days and things are pretty great at my new home. I have three ladies to myself and they are all charm personified. Lady and Tess are quite refined and Chips just follows me everywhere hoping to play. I had a great dinner on Christmas Eve with bacon, pork and chicken.
I am looking forward to Christmas lunch today. Also, we have each got our own stocking from Father Christmas which is full of tasty goodies and a new toy!
When I first got here I was not quite clear about the toilet arrangements or where to sleep. However, Chips has taken me on a tour of the garden now and I know to poke my head through the cat flap when I want to go out or in. It's very exciting outside because there are two yummy-looking rabbits in a hutch. The only thing about my humans is that they meanly do not let me chase the rabbits or the cats. Still ....I'll keep trying.
Mummy had brought me a new bed before I arrived and when I got home I unpacked it. The first evening I lay on that in the lounge because I was not clear about sofas. ....I am now!! I like to lie with my legs in the air and sleep. It's so much more cosy than a kennel. Chips told me off in the middle of the night on Tuesday because I could not settle down to sleep. In the end she got grumpy and said "Oh for goodness sake lie down". So I did!
I have got the hang of the stairs now. Coming down seems easiest - Chips goes first and then me. Lady and Tess always wait until all the fuss has died down. I have also now got the hang of beds. It was very exciting this morning on Christmas day with all the presents. Jessica brought her stocking into mummy and daddy's room to open so I jumped on the bed. It was great. I just lay right across so I had a good view of all the exciting packages. Chips went one better and helped Jessica to unwrap each one!
Of course, I am looking very handsome, because mummy took me to the hairdressers two days ago. I am whiter than white. (Except for my brindle patches).
Mummy, daddy and Jessica are about to take us all on a Christmas Day walk across the fields. I love the fields because there are so many exciting smells. I am usually very tired afterwards and have a great long drink and a little nap.
Mummy says there are lots of good films on today so I am going to watch some after lunch.
Quite honestly - I am rather pampered. I am remembering to wag my tail a lot like Kev said and to mind my manners. I have also pleased them a lot because I know how to sit and lie down on command and to stay. (Unless I decide to creep forwards on my tummy).
I think you would be proud of me. I am good friends with Tess, Lady and especially Chips and I am determined to stay here,

Hope you are having a woofy Christmas. Please give my love to my friends at the kennels.

Lots of Love,

Eddie. xxxxxxxxxxx

P.S. Daddy is going to send some photos later today. 25/12/2008

Hi Sally
Update on Issy, now called Missy.  She's settled down really well and gets on with our other greyhound.  They play well together and chase like lunatics when they go out.  My grandchildren love both dogs and both are gentle with the children.  Missy's teeth were not good when we got her, but are much better now.  She's had all her injections, and kennel cough (she goes to a foster mum when we go out for the day)..
Missy is the more golden of the two dogs in the photographs, we will send more photographs another day

'

What's in a name?'

At the beginning of October I adopted Cambridge Fizz, and she has been an absolute delight.
However, checking with Dog Search, there is no dog listed by that name. Browsing one day through adoptions I came across Combridge Fizz (no picture) but all the details matched my Fizz.
Today I happened to look at her vacination record which came with her - and I suspect that Vets handwriting, like doctors is indistinct and that is where the confusion has arisen.
Her pictures on the site are under Cambridge. But whether she's Cambridge aka Combridge, she's Fizz who has given me conconditional love in the short time she has been with me.
I regularly visit the Greyhoundhomer site - what an excellent one it is. A big thank you to everyone who is involved for all their hard work in finding forever homes for these wonderful animals.

Best wishes

Hello

We always look forward to Homer coming through our door and didn't realise what was online until we just ordered some Christmas cards, so its great to see so much on the website too! Its so lovely to see all the Greyhounds pictures and seeing so many happy doggies.

We have had two Greyhounds 'Ozzy' and 'Rodney' for about five years now and they have brought endless pleasure into our lives. Then when we realised we were having a baby we were naturally worried about how the boys would be, especially Rodney as he was always nervous when children came up to him. Well we were worrying over nothing! Ozzy is so laid back and pays Ria no attention whatsoever and Rodney is like a second Dad to her and always trys to be by her side. In fact there are not many photos that we have taken of Ria where Rodney isn't in the shot too! We are sending you our latest favourite one of Ria and Rodney having a well deserved rest!

Kind Regards

Just to let you know that Boo is lovely and very cuddly, but I think I have found the only greyhound that isn't a couch potato.  She is very bouncy and can't keep still for long.  Flossy is rather shell shocked by it all, as energy really isn't her thing at all, and seems a bit sulky and unwilling to interact, preferring to ignore Boo as much as possible.  Is that a natural reaction when your cosy greyhound space has been invaded?

Boo is eating everything in sight and what comes out seems three times the amount that went in !!  Thankfully it has mostly been in the garden apart from a couple of accidents when the door was shut due to rain, and somebody very kindly letting off fireworks yesterday afternoon.  However, she slept all the first night, apart from a small barking session at 3 a.m. when our son came home, and again last night at 2 a.m. when a cat startled her.  All things that she will learn to get used to (I hope).

We have been for a few walks which she seems to enjoy very much but she does need to learn to slow down a bit and really try to walk in a straight line!

The cats are not too bothered by her at all, and she is the same with them.  I find that strange as she is much more bouncy and noisy than Flossy but the cats are far more wary of Flossy.  Maybe it is something to do with Flossy's stripes, whereas Boo is black?  Are stripes more scary to cats?

It is all good fun and we are really enjoying her.  Just hope Flossy soon feels the same.

I have attached a photo taken on day 1.  If you use it on the website please edit out the fat lady holding the lead !!

Best wishes

Picture in the Photo Gallery.

Hello Pat (and Sally),

Here is a photo of Quayjan with Charlie (right) and Tommie (left).  They both adore him as you can see and he loves lots of fuss from them too!  The children decided to keep his name as they have looked at him constantly on the webpage since we chose him on Fathers day and they pronounce it 'kee-jun' (similarly to how 'Cajun' is sounded out) which seems much less of a mouthful to call so therefore decided to keep it.

Bit early for a proper update as he's only been here three days but so far so good and you asked for a picture so here it is!  Quay likes to mark different parts of the house at the moment but this is getting less frequent by the day and has had accidents in the night but I dont think thats anything to worry about.  We take his water away from him in the evening as you suggested so accidents are just a case of settling I think?!  Quay is quickly learning where to 'go' in the garden and follows me to the spot to do his business and gets praise and treats when he's been so hopefully soon will be completely ok at night too...

On his first night we had thunder storms (he had a loud moan at that!) so was a little unsettled and could hear him pacing and crying but did not want to keep disturbing him so left him alone really which he seemed fine with.  Last night, the first time I heard him whine was about 5am, so went and let him out in the garden for a toilet break then went back to bed and he did too so only one little wee accident last night!

The picture is of Quayjan on his bed which he seems to really love as he likes to stay on it rather than come and sit in the lounge with us. He pulls his bed over so he can see us on the sofa then flops on his bed and stays there for hours, only begrudgingly getting up for me to take him outside for toilet breaks!!  The first day, he followed anybody that moved but now he is getting used to the fact that we aren't going anywhere, he is perfectly happy laying on his bed in the hall as he can watch all the through traffic-the children are constantly walking past him and stepping over his long legs and he loves it-putting his head up for a quick stroke!

He loves his walkies and is so much calmer in just three days of being here... no jumping up or pulling at all really now!  Quay has met mainly smaller 'toy' dogs out and will bark at them but once he gets up close, he is a big jessie and doesn't know whether to sniff them or run away!!  Same with cats-he watches them walk across the back fence then waits until they are gone to run after them and bark/ grunt a bit!

Please pass on our best wishes to all who cared for Quayjan in his old kennel and let them know how he's getting on.  He still has fluid on his elbow but we will continue to put a cold hose on it until it goes down and it does not seem to bother him at all.  Will keep you regularly updated with progress and antics!

Thank you for all your help in finding our gorgeous Quayjan and please thank all of those involved with the Greyhoundhomer RGT for their patience and assistance when we came to chose a dog as we must have taken out about 12 dogs in total for a walk round the field that day!!  We wish you all the best in continuing with the fantastic work you are doing for these lovely animals.

Thanks again,

Love from Donna, Danny, Charlie and Tommie Davis xxxx
