HELLO RGT
Hi, JUST A NOTE TO LET YOU KNOW HOW I AM DOING.
I'v been with the Webster's in Trimley St Mary just over a year now & I'm
just about getting them sorted.
They take me for lots of walks in the countryside, feed me fantastic grub ,
brush me & look after me really well .
The kids can be a bit annoying sometimes but you have to take the 'RUFF'
with the smooth I suppose.
They took me to Whitworths vets charity dog show last week in Trimley,
embarrassingly Mum entered me in the best rescued dog event.
I shouldn't complain really as I won 1st prize & got a fantastic rosette &
some grub & loads of new toys.
I have got the Webster's to attach some photos & hope to see you at one of
your event's soon
Lots of love
Tilly (formerly Silly Tilly(but not so Silly))

Hi Sally & Kevin,
It's Groovy Tears now known as Ruby. Just a quick
note to let you know how I'm getting on, I have settled into my forever home
really well, the whole family love me ,it wasn't long before Chris my new
dad fell for me. He couldn't resist my cheeky charm, we are best of friends
and go out jogging together, I go out for 2 walks a day, over the fields
where its safe to be let off my lead , so I get a chance to have a good run
about. I get on with everyone I meet and they all comment on my shiny coat,
even the vet said I was in great condition. My Mom sometimes takes me to
work with her, where I get fussed by all the old ladies who live at the
residential home. I've sent you some photos so you can see for yourself how
great I look.
Thanks for finding me my forever home, you do a great job.
PS I like the video on the web site.

Hi All Retired Greyhounds,
Tarsna Poppy(Poppy) here or Pop Pops as my Dad
calls me.
Is it really six months since I was homed with Carl and Sally?
I can remember Carl coming down to Ockendon
with Ollie, his other greyhound,(Wow! What a good looking boy) I was
in love, at first sight. A Chippendale on four legs, well he was
young and good looking.
As I said Carl came to Ockendon to pick me up
after looking for another greyhound and I was picked (I found out
later they saw my photo on the Greyhoundhomer RGT website). They had
just lost their first greyhound Bruce (put to sleep after heart
failure) so I turned on all the charm and the next thing I was off
to Stifford for a dog show in the back of Carl’s big Volvo estate
complete with doggie beds. I was on trial and if I got it wrong it
was back to the kennels. So I was on my best behaviour, but with
Ollie there to help me no problems after all he’d been taught by
Bruce.
I was entered into my class of dog and went
into the ring with others, I wasn’t placed but it was good fun and I
met all the other greyhounds there. I did let myself down though, I
found the pack lunch, the sausage rolls were very tasty! I was
caught in the act, my new dad Carl said it was back to the kennels
for me!
But when we left Stifford we went a different
route , it turned out to be a place called Eye where Sally worked as
Carl had already arranged with Pat that I was going home with them.
When I saw Sally I knew, like Ollie, I had found the soft spot and I
knew then my dreams of a home had come true.
So now was the time to go around the house
sniffing all those new smells, Ollie was just laying on his bed
watching me ( he was remembering his first time in a house). He was
doing what greyhounds do best, sleeping!
After our evening walk with Carl and Sally it
was time for bed, where was I to sleep? It turned out to be with
Ollie but hang on I thought, on my first night, I’m a lady and don’t
do that sort of thing! I needn’t have worried Ollie was a prefect
gent. He kissed me goodnight and that was that ….. No hanky panky or
anything else.
I soon got used to the routine of house life
and no mess…ages. We are like an old married couple now but I
sometimes have to remind Ollie who is boss. Carl and Sally did some
checking on the website about my racing history and found out that I
was related to Bruce through my bloodline. But I think they already
knew that as I was doing things that Bruce used to do, like standing
on their toes and hiding his mobile phone charger. I have met their
boys Matthew and Martyn, going to carry on the work to get them home
again like the late Bruce and Ollie. I have also joined the Scouts
so we can carry on the work Bruce started, I like the Beavers bets
as they make a lot of fuss over me.
One other thing Carl and Sally have friends
living with them so we get walked at 4.30am, 7.15am, 9.30am, 12noon,
4pm, 6.30pm and finally 10pm! I have also done the 3 mile church
walks, been to the seaside, who said it was easy being retired! Two
twenty minutes walks a day did someone forget to tell them!!
Just sleeping all day …dream on. Their friends
Neil and Jenny have lost over 4 stone in weight since we‘ve been
part of their daily routine and Carl is down to 14.5stone from over
18 in three years. So not only do we make good pets we are also
beneficial to your health. Must go now it’s time for Neil and
Jenny’s walkies then it’s sausages for tea, Dad’s cooking.
Lots of love and licks to everyone
Poppy
PS thanks to Ollie for helping with this
letter, Bruce did teach him well.
Chips’ poem
I’m only two years old and my life has changed
again,
I was taken to a kennel for somebody to train,
But he left me at the kennels and I was on my own
So thanks to RGT I was given a new home.
I waited and I waited for an owner of my own,
‘Till someone came along and I had another go,
But in the house alone I was lonely, scared, confused
And although I tried my best, I did not know what to do.
It was lovely when they came home because tea
was on its way,
But staying all alone is not the price to pay.
I cried and then I howled, but no-one seemed to care,
And the neighbours got so cross, just knowing I was there.
So one day I was taken - back to RGT,
They tried to say “Don’t worry Chips - we’ll help you – wait and
see”
But really I was certain that a home could not be found,
For who would want a dog that howled and howled and howled?
But then just after Christmas, a family came
to say,
They’d seen me on the website and they’d like to let me stay.
They brought their other dogs and we ran about together
And we wagged our tails like anything and hoped it was forever.
I tried my best, I really did, I wagged, I
smiled, I fussed,
And then I heard the magic words “We’ll take her home with us.
She’ll have a lovely home and a comfy feather bed,
And all the food that she can eat – we’ll make sure she’s well-fed.”
I liked the family straight away and have
tried hard in this home,
I play with Jess and cuddle mum and never want to go.
I’m nice to all the dogs and I even like the cats,
I’ve sniffed noses with the rabbit and I ‘ve started to relax.
There’s lots of toys to play with and sofas,
beds galore,
We go for walks across the fields - I’m always wanting more.
They love me and the others and they’re always very kind,
So I’m glad I kept my hopes up ‘cos it’s working fine this time.
A message to my friends – don’t give up – it
will come
A proper owner for you and a home that’s really fun,
At least I know that all the friends that I left behind,
Are safe and well – thank goodness - RGT is so, so kind.
From Chips, 19/1/2008
Dear Sally,
Thank you so much for looking after me and finding me this lovely
home.
I have made friends with Tess, Lady and Kala and I am also pretty
friendly with their rabbit Katie (We sniff noses every morning).
I'm not sure about the cats as one of them was very rude and spat at
me, so every time I see them I give them a wide berth.
It is great here - I have got a nice bed (although mummy says it is
temporary whist I wait for my new one to arrive). Mummy has also
ordered me a pretty house collar and a new bowl.
I actually like sleeping on mummy's bed best but I know I must not
try that whilst she is asleep.
The other two greyhounds have been very kind to me and tonight we
have all been lying in the lounge together on the sofa and an
armchair.
When I first got here I thought that I should follow mummy
everywhere in case she left me behind. However, she never sits
still so I have given up! Now, I am happy to lie on my sofa even if
she goes off into the other room.
We have great food here - we have had lots of turkey and sausage
with our breakfasts and dinners - We are quite spoilt - I love meal
times! We all eat together in the kitchen and if Kala doesn't want
all hers I sometimes manage to sneak some extra.
Mummy takes us on walks in the fields out the back - at first I was
a bit afraid but I am getting used to all the smells now and Lady
and Tess have helped me by walking either side of me.
Jessica plays games with me - We have got lots of furry toys to play
with and also I am quite good at playing ball with Jessica. Mummy
says that is good because it keeps Jessica occupied.
I am feeling very relaxed and I can now go into the garden by myself
without mummy.
I also look gorgeous because mummy gave me a warm bath in the
bathroom with her best shampoo. I smell like a film start and I am
pretty pleased with myself.
I hope that you have a good New Year's eve and I am wishing hard so
that all my friends back at the kennel get a lovely new home in the
New Year. It is certainly worth waiting for.
Woofs and Licks,
Chips
xxxxxxxxx
P.S. Mummy says she will send some photos of all of use together
very soon.
Night night.

Dear Chips,
It was lovely to meet you the other day. Mummy and Daddy have told
us that you are coming to live with us for ever soon, and we are
very excited about it.
We thought that we would write you this email to stop you from
worrying about coming to a strange place. Today is Christmas day.
You may not know much about Christmas (neither did we) - It is a
strange time when all the grown-ups are home at once and there are
plenty of exciting food smells in the house.
Jessica and Jennifer woke up early this morning 'cos they were very
excited, but it was too early for us, so we just stayed stretched
out on our bean bags. When we got downstairs we found that Father
Christmas had been to the house. We did think that he might have
only brought human presents but there was a big stocking for us!
Lady was the best at opening presents and we all had a dog kebab and
some treats. We also each got a new cuddly toy. Mummy has also got
Christmas presents for you when you come, so you don't feel left
out.
Mummy gave us yummy turkey and we have had bacon and sausage today.
it is lovely with special gravy. Mummy is going to cook you some
too.
The weather is not what we like (rainy and depressing) but it will
be laright to still go on our walk later on 'cos we hae special
coats to wear. Mummy says you are going to have one too and a
special lead, just like us. We are sure you will like it here, cos
it is very warm and cosy.
If you have any worries, let us know and we will explain our humans
to you.
We are really looking forward to seeing you at the end of the week.
Lots of Love,
Tess, Kala and Lady (and mummy, daddy, Jessica and Jennifer)
Dear Sally,
Hello - Our names are Tess and Lady. We live with mummy, daddy and
jessica and we also have three cats here. We try to be nice to them
because mummy says we must, but sometimes we are tempted to chase them!
Mummy says we may be going to rescue another greyhound. that would be
o.k. with us as long as the new dog is friendly and shares. (sofas,
cuddles, food etc.)
We are very happy here because our family has given us lovely comfy bean
bags to sleep on and sometimes we are allowed on the beds. We have our
own sofas in the lounge and mummy, daddy and Jessica have to squash up
on the end!
We like watching television and prefer to stay in a lot at the moment
because it is freezing outside. When daddy takes us out late at night
we have special coats to wear and we have dressing gown type coats to
wear at night if it is very cold.
We live right next to some lovely fields and we love our walks over
there. Jessica bought us all an advent calendar this year and so we
geet a treat every day - It's good this Christmas thing! There is also
a huge bulging red stocking which is apparently for us all to share on
Christmas Day. However, we couldn't wait that long so Lady tried to
unwrap the presents on her own. She managed to get a packt of treats
undone before she was caught! (Better luck next time).
We are really pleased to hear that you have re-homed over two hundred
greyhounds 'cos we love being in a home and would not like to go back to
the kennels now. We are actually quite spoilt and in the summer our
family takes us on holeeeday which is good. usually this means extra
food, playing in the C and lots of walks. Its really exciting.
Please could you send our love to Pat and Alan and all at RGT because we
want to send our own woofy Christmas message to everyone. When we eat
our turkey etc, we keep thinking and hoping that all the other
greyhounds will find a lovely home too.
Perhaps we will be helping out again soon.
Lots of licks and woofs.
P.S. Here are some photos of us! - find on the Photo's page

Hi all Deano here,
Sorry it's took so long to contact you but I have been settling in to my
new home, it has taken me a while to settle and its been touch and go
especially when I chewed a three piece suite and two venetian blinds oops, I
just didn't like to be home alone without my mum. I love my family and we
have lots of fun, I go for long walks in the woods everyday and run and run
and run. I sneak onto my mums bed every night and take up all the room he he
but mum can't resist me because I'm so gorgeous and cuddly. Well I've got to
go now as mum is taking me out for a run its such a hard life, love to all
and I hope you all have a lovely xmas.
lots of love and kisses Deano

Hi Pat and All my friends,
Sussey here, (succession), Just thought I'd send you a line to
let you know how my first night went in my new home.
Everyone greeted me with lots of hugs and kisses and made a real
fuss. Tyler, my new house mate (he's a springer spaniel) is
great! We met a few times at the kennels and walked the fields
together which was nice. Of course he took a fancy to me more or
less straight away and tried his hardest to take advantage of me
but I soon put a stop to that malarky!
I'm a Lady you know, don't do things like that on first
dates!!!!
Anyway he has been good to me since I've moved in. He showed me
how to get up and down the stairs in the first five minutes. It
looked so easy, I thought, if he can do it, then so can I. He
does lots of other tricks too but hey, one thing at a time
eh!!!!!! One thing for sure is he doe's have some strange
habits. They say you don't really know someone till you live
with them well, I know where he gets the name "Springer" from.
He jumps up and down real high trying to catch flies if you
don't mind!! One time i thought he was going to head butt the
ceiling, now that would have been funny!!
You'll be pleased to know that I'm trying very hard to be on my
best behaviour. Karen and Pete keep telling me what a good girl
I am even though I did manage to take off my muzzle! (I'm quite
bright you know)......
Karen lent me one of her quilts to sleep on and I had a really
good nights sleep. I didn't cry once!
Tomorrow, I'm getting a brand new bed of my very own. I'm soooo
spoilt!
hey made me a lovely dinner with gravy and all the trimmings. I
enjoyed it so much, they gave me seconds, Mmmmmmmm then after
that, me and Tyler went for a stroll in the park.
We had a little bit of a scrap this morning and he nipped my
head and made me bleed a little but I remained strong and didn't
cry.
I don't like the cats much, there are so many of them. The two
kittens keep hissing at me and I want to eat them but Karen
keeps telling me "NO" and squirting my face with water. I don't
like THAT!!!!!! I want to try and get along with them as
I don't want to go back to the kennels. This new home is like a
palace and I'm treated like royalty, everyone is so kind.
Well it's time for my knap I'm shattered after all my walks.
(I've been on four since yesterday got to keep fit)!
Tell all my greyhound friends that they're in my thoughts and
I'll be in touch soon.
Lots of Licks,
Sussey x x x
P.S. I've attached a couple of photos of me with Tyler and Pete
for you to show around . Hope you like them x

Hello Everybody
Dusky AKA Dusky Sailor
here. Just wanted to tell you how my first couple of weeks in
my new home has gone. Well it has been great. Lots of cuddles
and Mummy & Daddy keep telling me what a good boy I have been.
Haven't had any accidents yet. Always ask to go out if I feel
the need so Mummy and Daddy have learned all my signals. It's
not that difficult to train these humans as they are quite
intelligent really. Food is great and I get lots of treats
especially when I've had some time on my own. I just fall asleep
on my bed instead of getting into mischief and I get a treat
when they get home. Simple!
Lots of new smells on my
walks. Daddy and I go out before he goes to work and we stick to
the usual route. However at weekends when he has more time we go
exploring for ages and we walk so far I just have to flop on my
bed as soon as I get home. Well after I've sniffed my food bowl
anyway. My bed overlooks the back garden so any movement can
easily be spotted from my vantage point. I was told there was
a cat problem in the area. Not here there isn’t.
I've played with my toys
just a little bit. The odd bunny up in the air and a quick
pounce as they fall on the floor. Not sure I like the squeaky
one though. Give me more time on that one. Saw a squirrel today.
Daddy wouldn't let me play though.
Including some pictures to
show you all how great retirement really is.
Love to all
Dxxx

Ello everyone Dingo here,
Love my new home get lots of cuddles, also a
mad house with 4 children but I love it! I have 2 friends Tibby and
Smudge (kittens). Well I say they are my friends but they hiss at me

chew. So now I got chews etc ( don't think that stop me though hehehe) oh

Hello to all my old friends!
(day 13)
I'm having quite an adventure at my new home. I have been having lots
and lots of cuddles and now I can get up and down the stairs I am
allowed to nap on the big rug in the bedroom during the day. My new
friend Lizzie has been sharing her toys with me but I have got a teddy,
some keys, a pulley rope and a squeaky chicken leg of my own.
I have had a couple of little accidents (oops) but it was only because
i'd had a heavy evening!
I've been for lots of walks and get to chase Lizzie up and down the
garden. She waits for me behind the wall and jumps out, it's such good
fun! We have a tug of war most days, and she's so little it's a push
over really so I sometimes let her win to make her feel happier.
I've been collecting things for my bed, slippers, belts, newspapers, my
dinner bowl and a few other things but I have not chewed them, just
snuggled with them to keep them warm.
Anyway, that's all for now. I attach two more pictures; one of me and
Lizzie playing and then me sleeping (again!).
Bye for now.

Dear Pat and Alan,
Lady here! Guess what! I have been on
Hol eeee day. We all went together in the car. (Me, Kala, Mummy, Martin,
Jessica and Jennifer.
We went to a place called Devon and we stayed in a cottage in the ground
of a huge house. The people there had a German Shepherd called Max but I
kept out of his way because he looked quite big.
We went for walks in big huge fields and woods and one day we went to
Exmoor and saw some ponies.
I have also learnt about beaches and the sea. I paddled in the sea a lot
and at first I didn't like those fast things (waves) but now I can jump over
them and splash about without being frightened. Mummy even let me play for a
little bit without my lead on. I didn't run away.
(Why would I - I might have got lost)
Jessica and mummy and I went rock pooling and found a big fish. Mummy
says it is called a dog-fish but I cannot see any resemblance at all!
I was fine with all the other dogs on the beach until I saw a Great Dane.
Then I found that I could do a really deep bark. I wanted to go and see him
because from a distance I think he looked a bit like another greyhound.
I was not supposed to go on the beds in the cottage, but mummy has taken
some photos of me on her double bed. I lie and on my back and I practice
bicycling with my legs. There was a lovely long corridor in the cottage and
in the morning I went mad up and down it with my toy in my mouth. I have
developed a new game. It is called "Challenge Jessica" (I have to sneak into
her room and take one cuddly toy at a time onto my bed before she notices).
It is really great fun!
I am glad to be back home now because it was a very long drive yesterday
- especially as there were lots of traffic jams. We kept stopping for a walk
and a drink. I met two labradors and seven labrador puppies!
I have already been out for a walk with Kala this morning in our fields.
They are great now because the farmer has harvested and we can run about
everywhere!
Can't wait 'till they have breakfast 'cos sometimes I get bacon or
sausage afterwards. (Have already had my breakfast but can still find room
for just a little snack).
Hope you are having a nice time. Might see you soon.
Big woofs and licks,
Lady. xxx

Dear Pat, Lady here. Mummy says I'm the perfect dog! I am
still being nice to the cats. I had my dinner with the youngest one called
Kim. My walks are lovely round the fields. I sleep upstairs with Kala in
mummy's room. I have a lovely dog-minder in the day, but I'm always pleased
to see mummy, Jessica and Martin after school.
They all love me a lot and I get lots of cuddles! I give them kisses in
return and sometimes I stand up and hug them! I have tried hard not to let
you and Alan down. I have been on my best behaviour because I would love to
stay here.( All their friends think I'm gorgeous too!)
One of their friends have another greyhound called Alfie. We're all going
to go on an adventure together soon.
Anyway, have to go and put Jessica to bed now and say goodnight to her.
Woofs and kisses to you and Alan.
Love Lady

Dear Pat, Have come back to that nice house where I stayed
before. Kala (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) is my new friend and we sniff
each other and wag our tails. I'm hoping I may be able to snuggle up with
her in the winter.
I have a lovely bed. Mummy let me sleep in her room which is good 'cos
there are no carpets and it is nice and cool. I had a bath in the garden
yesterday. I like baths. I just stood there and let them pour water all over
me. It was really nice and cool, and I smell lovely!
Kala had a bath too. She wasn't as good as me and kept trying to walk
off. I will help her next time. I told her that she looked pretty
afterwards.
You know there are four cats - well the first one I met again was Cleo
(she hit me on the nose during my last visit) Luckily, mummy let me hide
behind her legs. There is a young boy cat called Kim and he is very nosy. He
comes and sniffs me and I just let him!
I did suddenly remember what I have been trained to do when I saw the pet
rabbit but mummy says I mustn't hurt him because he is her pet too. I
pretended to agree with her but I know that smell so well........ The guinea
pigs are just odd, frankly, and I'm not really interested in them. They
squeak too much!
Kala and I have breakfast and dinner and we go out for a walk really
early in the morning 'cos mummy says that way it won't be so hot.
Jessica is our little girl (she is 10).
She really loves me and I love her. The only trouble is, she wants to hug
me ALL the time and sometimes I just want to sleep. They are always getting
up and whizzing off somewhere and sometimes it is hard to keep up.
I travel in the back of mummy's car and I can jump down easily but I'm
not so sure about getting in on my own yet. You will be proud to hear that I
have already mastered the stairs in the house and now go up two at a time.
I'm a bit more careful coming down.
I don't really like it when one of them goes out. When daddy came home on
Saturday I put my paws on his shoulder and gave him a kiss so that he knows
not to go out without me again!
They have told me that I'm going to go on hol....eeeee....day.. Don't
know what it is but it is in a cottage in Devon where there are good walks.
Here, we walk all around the farmers' fields and it is full of lovely smells
and rabbits and pheasants . If only they would let me go...........
Anyway, please don't worry about me 'cos they look after me every minute
of the day. When they go to work I am going to go to Una's house with Kala.
I am going to meet her today. (She used to be a dog breeder so she should be
alright with animals). Kala already goes there anyway and she said that she
is very kind. Una is also Jessica's child-minder.
Later today we are going to see their really big pets called horses.
I am looking forward to dinner because I'm going to have mince today.
Will send you another note soon.
Please give a big lick to my trainer and to my kennel-mate.
Love,
Lady xxxx
P.S. Mummy says maybe we can go to one of your shows one day where you
are trying to get people to give homes to greyhounds. She says I could show
the people how nice I am and that they would say that too!
xx
Love and licks from Lady. (They won't call me Bad Lady 'cos I'm being so
good) |

Hi Pat & Sally It's been 4 weeks now (what an eventful 4
weeks they've been) since I found my new family. When they came to see me,
on St George's Day, there was four of them Angela, Tim, James(13) &
Estelle(6). They took one look and fell in love then and there (not that I
blame them, I just gave them one of those looks). We went for a walk in the
paddock, I was on best behaviour, even James wanted to hold my lead,
although he looked a bit nervous at first, I soon helped him realise not all
dogs jump up and go mad. The next day Angela and her dad came to take me
home where I had a good sniff around and soon made myself comfortable in a
corner where they had put my new bed (a quilt in a Harry Potter cover).
After school another addition to the family arrived Eliza(11) and she
introduced me to the two white rabbits (what are they doing to me) but no
I've resisted temptation and after two weeks I hardly take any notice of
them. I have been in Angela's dad's pond twice now, it's very deep but I
don't need arm bands, and Angela's & Tim's once, not so much room to swim
around though. A week later I went to the vets to be spayed, nails clipped
and teeth cleaned, was I bothered? no. Third week I went away in their
touring caravan to Portsmouth, I had a fantastic time, I bit through one
lead and one harness and Tim & the kids had a great time chasing me (I
think). I heard them say we're off caravanning half term can't wait, new
lead and harness. Angela & Tim take me dog training once a week, more for
the socialising than anything, because as I hear them say so often, I'm
perfect. Today, I've just got home from the vets, I had to have a piece of
glass taken out of one of my pads which was making me limp and miserable,
I'm O.K. now. It's so great being with this family, although I was well
looked after at the kennels, its nice to have all the attention.
There's plenty of it and lots of titbits to go with it.
I'll be in touch Georgie Vi (nee Canine Vi) X
Thank you Pat and Maurice for making our family complete.

Hi!
Tigger here, just wanted to say thanks for
letting Jack my husband come stay here with me. It's nice here. The strange
people here love me to bits (who can blame them!) I get lots of treats and
haven't made a mess at all...always tidy my crumbs up after me!
I was missing Jack so I made sad eyes at my new mum and dad and they knew
what was up! I know they can understand me as I always get food when I am
hungry and cuddles when I was lonely. And it worked! Jack likes it here too.
He is always grabbing the attention as he is a typical boy and not afraid of
anything! But, I have started pushing him out they way now and that seems to
work! They have 3 little people here so that keeps us busy out in the
garden. Me and Jack are keeping up with our racing, I chase him around the
garden, don't want him to get fat! The little people laugh at us! (Very
strange!) They have a little white thing that keeps on turning up but I
can't get a close enough look to see what it is! They keep calling me and
Jack back, but, one day I will find out!! Anyway just wanted to let you know
that I am settling in well and they take us for walks over a big field full
of nice smells!
Jack wants a word.
Hi Pat, Thanks for letting me come stay with Tigger, she has been telling me
that they are nice here and this is our new home. I have made myself right
home here, foods good, entertainment great! But bit concerned about this
fluffy thing walking around! Not that bothered though as it seems friendly
enough and doesn't nick me dinner! Think I will check him out as soon as I
get a chance! Gotta go in garden now, gotta check the birds out, hehe. Don't
think they are gonna get that bread before I do! do they!!
See you soon..Jack x
Tigger here, going to join him, can't let him have all the goodies!! See you
soon x

Hiya Sally,
Just thought I'd like to let you know how I'm getting on with my new Mum,
Dad, and Sister. You probably don't remember me, but I was Knockrour Rox,
and got my new Mum and Dad on the 1st Sept.'05, Mum and Dad call me Rocky,
or Rox. I like it. I did write to you once before, so this is just an
update. Well, I've really settled down now, I have the run of the house, and
sleep where I like, or at least where my sister isn't. She's named Kasha,
not a Greyhound like me, but a Lurcher, only half Greyhound, but good fun.
We play in the back garden, and have really pleased my dad, as he doesn't
have to cut the grass anymore, me and Kasha have torn it all up, and turned
it into a race track hehe. Mum gets angry though, because we keep dropping
mud onto the kitchen floor, but then she gives us both cuddles. Mum is a
brilliant cook, and I'm eating all sorts of new food, plus my biscuits of
course. This is the life though, no more training and racing for me, just a
pleasant life from now on. Mum and Dad have said I've earnt my retirement
and should enjoy it, I think I'm going to. I only wish my old kennel mates
could find new Mums and Dads, someone to love them and look after them, I
wish I could bring them all here, but there's not enough room for them, I'll
just a prayer for them tonight, and who knows ?
Must go now Sal, regards to Pat and Dick, and all at the kennels.
Love
Rocky xxx

Home
Sitting here on my own,
Really wish I had a home.
Now my racing days are over,
Not any good to my racing owner.
I missed the break for the very last time,
When I was a pup I was sublime.
Now I'm older and not so fit,
I would like to have just one last wish.
To live my last breath,
With someone who cares.
To be loved for the first time,
Right till the end.

Hi All Greyhound Lovers
Bruce and Ollie here, with
an update on life in
Ipswich. Has it really been 8 months since we came into Carl
and Sally’s lives? So far things are going really well and we have them both
wrapped around our dew claws. We still get plenty of our favourite foos,
chicken with Pasta and tuna in brine or vegetable oil (it helps keep our
coats in top condition), other things we get are spaghetti bolognaise, KFC,
Chinese (love those prawn crackers) and as our Dad is a trained chef, he
does a wicked roast dinner. So on Sundays it’s a roast with all the
trimmings, ( he won’t give us sprouts) can’t think why.
We still get up to our
usual tricks and our four walks a day which means our dad has lost over a
stone in weight. Perhaps he should have got sponsored, anyway in 6 months
time we will have him down to his racing weight. All of their friends think
we are wonderful, many of them wish they could retire like (Ollie) at 2 yrs
old. We have done 7 church walks all of them about 4 miles, all starting and
finishing at pubs. The last one was the best at Rendlesham Forest, where
they had a BBQ. Other church members brought their dogs so we had to be on
our best behaviour and as our dad was doing the BBQ, we all knew what that
meant, as he had cooked extra sausages, burgers and chicken we all got some
as well. In August our mum &dad went on holiday and as we could not go we
went to the kennels at Ockendon and had a great time, telling all those other
greyhounds what it was like being a family pet and being spoiled rotten,
Well we are worth it and what a weekend we had at Pat and Dicks, thank-you
for having us while they went away to see the lights at
Blackpool.
We still get to go to
Leiston and see the boys ( met their social worker ). She was impressed with
us, said what we already knew, how wonderful we are. We are now allowed off
the lead at Sizewell beach, and have a good run around, we always come back
when called (well sometimes) eventually. We had our first experience of
fireworks, they did not bother Bruce but I was (Ollie) a little bit scared
at first, but got used to them.
We are still both honary
scouts and go with our dad, doing our talk all about us, mum has now joined
the scout movement as well and when time permits comes with us. Anyway it
will soon be Christmas, mum and dad say wait till Christmas, by the way
what’s Christmas. We’ve had our first pressie new coats with our names on
them, can’t think why as we know our names (but still they are fleece lined
and lovely and warm).
If it means one of dads
roast dinners, then we will wait and on Saturday 12/11/05 we did our
sponsored walk, only 5 miles our dad said...... try nearly 9 miles .Jimmy
came on the walk with his mum and boy. They plan to do the walk next year so
please make a note in your diaries, as there are other small dogs about
muzzles must be, worn only as a precaution. The Saturday before Remembrance
Sunday, hope all you greyhounds out there can bring your families. Still if
it raises some money for our friends waiting for homes it was worth every
step and we had a lovely sunny day for it, hoped to have raised about 250
pounds, so as you can see we live life to the full.
Who said it was sleeping
all day, 45 mile couch potatoes (dream on). On a sad note though one of our
friends (Samson) has gone to the big kennel in the sky they have said that
they will get another dog and when they do it will be a greyhound. So it
best behaviour at the kennels it could be you they pick we will come with to
help them pick.
Lots of love and licks
Bruce & Ollie
P.S. hope our mum and dad
do not find out we have written to you

Hi my name is
Canine Nell
or Nelly as my mum calls me.
I chose the Bonds mum ,dad, Nathan 13 and
Liam 11 in May 2005. They are very nice and I have a great big bed all
to myself under the stairs .Already I have been on holiday to Wales
where there was lots of nice walks and new animals for me to discover
squirrels, moles and foxes. How I wish I could chase them but mum and
dad said I have to try to forget this now but it is so hard especially
as we have lots of cats near where we live and they seem to tease me
when we walk but I am trying my best !!! I have settled in quite nicely
now I have only eaten the fly swat, 2 kitchen utensils and mums oven
gloves, those pesky fly's mum loves catching them but I am not so sure
I did not like it so I ate the fly swat and got carried away, mum was
worried I might have got a bit stuck in me but I was not that silly. I
am so lucky not only do they feed me twice a day but I have my own out
door take away called the bird table!) I wander around the garden (my favourite place )and pretend to sniff the flowers then when nobody is
looking I can just help my self yummy .If people read Sally's web site
they will know a little bit about me all ready. I let myself down last
Saturday I am ashamed to say we were all looking forward to seeing Sally
,Kevin ,Belle and her new friend Smokie to get some more food and for me
and to have a play ,but when I went in something said in my head be top
dog and off I went showing off trying to impress Smokie (wow he is
handsome) but Belle was having none of this and she told me off ! I
tried to ignore this voice and at the end I played nicely , mum said I
was very rude especially in someone else's house I will try harder next
time .Also mum and dad were getting a bit cross with me because I had
ruined the hall carpet and they have had to buy a new wash down floor. I
got in to a habit over the summer holidays going out in the garden when
ever I wanted but now mum has been back at work it has been tricky and I
keep on weeing on the floor I tried to stop but it was hard mum does
click and treat before she goes out which I have now got used to so I go
for a wee before she goes out in stead of when I want to (I am very
stubborn you know ). Sally also said they may be giving me too much
water on my food and they were right, I just could not hold on but it
was not all my fault ,I now have only half a pint of water over it
instead of the pint and a half they were using (they measured it .),
They were shocked it was so much and now feel very sorry I have been dry
all week and we are all happy so hope fully we have cracked it , but I
forgive them because I like it here I get lots of tickles (HEAVEN) and
three walks a day and I think I have succeeded in them falling in love
with me (it was easy!! ) mum said to tell you that it is very worth
while rehoming us greyhounds and to thank Sally ,Kevin, Pat and Dick for
all their good advice and kindness . I must go now it is biscuit time
life is so hard you know.
love from NELLY

Hiya Pat and Dick, and all at Harlow
RGT,
Just a few words from me (Knocknour Rox) "Rocky" to say a big thank you, for letting me adopt my
new humans, known as mum and dad. I allow them to walk with me when I go to
the field over the road, along with my new sister Kasha, she's a Lurcher.
She's ok I suppose, not a pedigree like me, but she'll do. When I do take
them go out, I think they enjoy it, as they need the exercise, I'll soon
have them down to their proper racing weights.
My new dad goes out on his own
everyday, work I think they call it, but I have to look after my mum all
day, as she needs the company to stop her pining. I even allow her to make
me dinners etc, and make a fuss of me, strange things, humans, but we
can't all be perfect can we.
I've included some photo's for
you, to show the inmates at Ockendon Kennels, to show them that living
with humans can have there benefits, so, if they see some humans walking
around aimlessly, go up to them and make a fuss of them, and before they
know it, they'll be walking around like me.
Must go now, as I feel a sleep coming on, but before I go, once again for looking after me
until I found a new home, love to all, hope to see you all soon.
Bye now,
Rocky ( Knockrour Rox ) XXX
ps. May see you at Felixstowe Sally, as my
humans go there quite often.

Hi I'm Wise Effort,
Wisie to my friends
but I have a new nickname, 'The Wise One'! I moved to London in May but have
something called a cemetery behind where I live and I have lovely walks
around that. There are red things called foxes running around and funny grey
things with long tails called squirrels, which run up trees. I've tried
chasing them - but I haven't learnt to climb trees yet!
I've got what they call toys, they make a
lovely noise, I like that especially when they are watching telly. I also
have chewy things which I can chew (without getting into trouble). My
favourite is a ball I'm learning how to throw it, but it doesn't go far and
my mum keeps interfering picking it up and throwing it, but I want to do
it.
My pictures are of me with water either
in it or by it. I like going to the seaside because I love my car and
sleeping in it.
At present I'm doing the garden, digging
holes. The other day mum tried to dig a hole, call that a hole, as she went
to get something, I showed her how to dig a hole, now that's what I call a
hole! She wasn't impressed apparently she was planting a plant not digging a
pond. We have a pond which I drink out of.
Where we go shopping ( I love shopping,
always looking in the bags) they have a stadium called Walthamstow, people
always ask if I'm retired, or do I still race. I do race around the garden
to keep fit otherwise I sleep on my settee in my front room. Sometimes mum
sits with me when I let her.
I am enjoying myself and mum keeps saying
wait until Christmas. Apparently I'll enjoy it.
Love
Wisie

Dear Kevin, Sally, Pat, and
all the gang
Hello and greetings from
Ollie
I thought it was time to
let you know how I am getting on in Ipswich in my new home with Bruce (the
old timer) Carl and Sally. Well I am very pleased to report that I am very
comfortable here and very lucky to have come to a good home. After my
uncertain start in
Ipswich which nearly resulted in me going back to the kennels. (Thank you Pat
for alerting them to my need of a new home)
Carl came over with Bruce, and there and then said yes, he took me as
a companion for Bruce. I soon found the weak spot...... Carl' wife Sally, as
soon as she saw me.... that was it, love at first sight. Well, I am young
and good looking, when she heard my story, and that I was due to go back to
the kennels. All she said was no way..... He’s here to stay. So now there are
three men in her life. That is Carl.... Bruce..... and me. I soon learnt from
Bruce about the early morning 4:30am walks and that it did not matter about
it being their day off or not. Plus all the other little things the old
timer gets up to, I have too admit to a couple of accidents here, but this
was due to me being in a new home, I was very nervous and I had to adjust to
a new set of circumstances. My mum and dad were very understanding and just
took it as part of the process of settling in, but with Bruce there to help
me I soon learnt the routine. We have our own bed under the stairs, to share
a nice comfy single mattress, with duvets..... doggy heaven. So we have our
own chill out area, I also had my (MOT) from the vets and lost the family
jewels. As Bruce mentioned in his letter that lovely chicken and those
sausages they get from jimmy (makes my mouth water just thinking about
them). One thing I did was to learn to go up and down the stairs all on my
own (who’s a clever boy?) wrong!!
As soon as I had made myself at home, Carl and Sally said it was time for my
bath!!!!!!!!!
So like the good obedient dog I was I followed them upstairs (what a big
mistake). They led into the bathroom and shut the door. My escape route had
been sealed then they lifted me into the bath (what was this big white oval
thing) then I was sprayed with this wet stuff (water) and I thought it was
for drinking when I was thirsty, next they put on this bubbly stuff, and I
was covered nose to tail in bubbles (shampoo). When this was finished they
rinsed it off with that wet stuff again finally they opened the door and I
made my escape. Who was sitting at the bottom of the stairs.......Bruce!
With the biggest..... smuggest ... silly..... grin on his face. I think he
knew what was going to happen. He could have warned me, that’s the last time
I go upstairs...
I have also done my first church walk, it was just like Bruce said it was,
but meeting all of Carl and Sally’s friends, and all them making us big fuss
of me saying how lucky I was to come to such a good home, making friends
with Robbie, the vicars dog (Border collie I think). Being able to walk in
the country side to be able to enjoy all those new smells, it was worth
every step. The best bit was when they said that we’re going to
Harlow for a retired greyhound only dog show (that’s where I first
raced). What’s a dog show I thought (still I will play along) but first of
all we had to go to Leiston to pick up Mathew and Martyn, Carl’s two sons
who are in foster care.
Like Bruce I hope that one day they will be able to come home again maybe if
Bruce and I work together this could happen (who knows) so it was to be a
7:30 a.m. start. Before we left dad put this box thing on the back of the
car (I found out it was a trailer). I am not going in there I thought to
myself. No need to worry it was to carry down some bits and pieces they said
they would take down. We arrived and soon we were put into kennels to settle
after the journey while they went for some liquid refreshment. All to soon
it was my turn to enter the ring with all the other dogs in my class, the
judge came along and checked me over, while my mum told the judge all about
me, how they had got me, and how they saved me from going back to the
(kennels) and when I was called forward with another dog for third place my
heart was in my mouth. What had I done? But alas it was not to be (fourth)
but what an achievement; I was beaten by a whisker. So watch out I will be
back next year, and boy were my mum and dad proud of me. It only goes to
show that a bit off t.l.c. can go a long way but as my dad said it’s not the
winning that counts but taking part.
But best off all is that all the dogs are winners. Why? ........
Because we all share one thing in common, families...... who love us and
care for us.
So from Bruce and myself and all the dogs who have
found homes thank you.... thank you.... thank you...... for without us there
would be no show and without you no future for us dogs.
Like Bruce I have joined the scouts (Honorary capacity) and we go around the
different scout groups telling the scouts about the breed, about ourselves,
our racing history so more people can hear about us and if a scout parent
takes one of us on then it’s all worthwhile.
One idea I have, would it be possible to have a local get together for all
the dogs that have been homed in
Ipswich and surrounding areas say a b.b.q. at Rendlesham forest there are some
lovely woodland walks there I know as I have done a couple with Bruce. I
will send some photos soon of myself and Bruce in our chill out zone and to
all those greyhounds waiting for a new home.
Keep you’re muzzles up your day will come, mine has and when yours comes if
you’re as happy as I am now ... it’s worth the wait.
That’s all for now folks
lots of love and licks
Ollie and Bruce

Hi Sally,
This is Frankie,
I thought I would just check in and tell you how life is treating me.
I don’t have any
photos at the moment, but my new mum said she will forward them on to you
soon.
Well life, it’s
a doddle, I have been here for 5 weeks now and its the best thing that has
ever happened in my life, we have had some funny incidents and I always make
her laugh, the day I arrived I didn’t know what glass was so tried to walk
through the patio doors, and then she let me in the garden and there was
this thing called a pond with this things called fish? tried to fish them
out with my paws she thought that was so funny, the first night I spent in
the living room on a quilt thing she bought me huh wasn’t having a lot of
that, so managed to push her bedroom door open and sleep on the floor next
to her bed. The next day a lot of people came to see me and spoilt me with
presents, didn’t know what toys were really for so I hid them all in her
washing basket including a big marrow bone. The next night I started on the
floor but decided when she was asleep to gently jump on her bed, I was
really quiet and curled up in a ball, what a fantastic nights sleep, when
she woke up she just patted me and kissed me, never had attention like
this....
Things are a
little strange, I race down the garden and have now made a track in her
grass, she just laughs at me, 2 weeks ago she took me to the seaside for 3
days and we stayed in a caravan, great laugh, I chased these things called
seagulls, paddled in a big pond, went to the pub, what a great time!. The
only thing that worries me is in her bedroom she has this thing called a
mirror, well guess what in it is this brindle greyhound that looks like me,
so I growl and lunge at him but he won’t go, he keeps looking back at me,
again she just laughs at me, what am I doing wrong?
Another good
game is to get her mobile phone, run off with it down the garden and throw
it in the air, excellent one that one, she runs after me but never tells me
off!....... B.A.T.H.S. well she was in it the other night and I
decided I would join her, oh yea jumped in on her there was water everywhere
wish I had never done it as she covered me in shampoo and made me smell all
girly. What would the boys say?
At the moment I
heard her on the phone talking to my new Grandmother saying that she is
thinking of getting another brother or sister for me, oh dear I won’t be
number one anymore, but then again it would be company for me. She also
said she has always had some breed called a rottweiler and never thought she
could accept another breed, but think I have proved to her, that I am very
gentle, very loving, very laid back and an excellent pet.
Well I had
better sign off, the pizza delivery man is on his way, and boy do I love
pizza never had them before until a week ago, they are delicious.
By the way I
will be entering the Dog Show, got to have a bath though she said, its my
birthday that weekend so will be getting loads of pressies.
Give my love to
the boys and girls.

Upminster xxxxxxxxxxxx

Dear Sally and
all at Harlow
Just a quick
letter to let you know that I have settled into my new home in Ipswich with
my new family, they are my mum Sally and my dad Carl, although they like to
think that they are in control of things, They are not really as I am now
the center of their lives,
my Mum works in a poultry processing factory, in the K>F>C> dept working on
12 hour shifts so I get lots of lovely chicken to eat and when they go to
Jimmy’s farm they get me some lovely fresh meaty sausages.
As my Mum has to
get up early when on shift I get me first walk at 4:30 a.m. When my Mum is
not working on her 6 days off or on Sundays, I still get her up at 4:30 a.m.
for my walk, later on my Dad gets up about 7:15 a.m. and I get my second
walk, he works in retail selling tiles, and even he has to get up on his
days off.
Every Monday off
so we go to Leiston and see my extended family, Karl’s two sons. I think
that since I came here to stay , I have brought joy and happiness back
into their lives, I think there is a chance we could be all live as family
again. Both Mum and Dad go to church and everyone there think what a
wonderful chap I am. The church organises family walks on the first Sunday
of every month , the first being April, they said it was only a short walk!
3 3/4 miles I did across fields (saw my first sheep &lambs , and a cow)
along farm tracks, being lifted over styles, (boy was I tired ,who said
retirement was easy!) We finished at a pub where the nice landlady got me a
bowl of water to drink, I left the grown ups to their beers. I have had my
first bath, (I did not like it ) my Mum had to help me up the stairs, and
then lift me into the bath , four times I tried to escape and failed. I
have made a new doggy friend with Samson, one of my Mums workmates and we
both go walkies together in the park, I have had a couple of accidents since
I have been here, not my fault (honest),
they either did
not get up quick enough to let me out, or they don’t understand doggy talk I
swear I did try to tell them. My first encounter with the t.v. was watching
Crufts, all those silly dogs running around jumping over fences, it made my
tired just watching them, mind I would have made a great supreme champion, I
mean with my charm, good looks, a dog can dream can’t it. The best time of
my day is when my Mum and Dad get home from work , then we have a silly 10
minutes or so chasing around the garden, playing with my soft toy they
bought me, Then we go walkies and sometimes we meet my Mums work bus or we
go down to my Dads work place. I must say in closing that it great here,
learning to be a dog, and to be loved as a family pet, they give me as much
love, as I give them, Now they want to get another greyhound from you Pat, a
playmate for me. They must be mad, but as I know what to do , I can help
with the house training. Must sign off now, my paws are beginning to hurt,
using the keyboard and I have to get ready and go to scouts with my Dad
,while my Mum goes to choir practice.
best wishes for
now love Bruce
p.s. best wishes
also from Carl, Sally. Mathew and Martyn
p.p.s. hope you
like my photo
