Goodness this really is a terrible year, so many of our precious hounds have crossed the bridge, it is almost too much to bear.We are so terribly sad to learn that Dan (Our Man Dan) one of our wonderful Greyhound Ambassadors had to be put to sleep weeks before his 6th birthday. Dan was an absolute star at our promotional events, always out front meeting everyone he worked tirelessly to find homes for his pals waiting in kennels for their forever homes. This is what his devastated family have said about him”Today I had to say goodbye to Dan my daft little hound who was always bye my side, after weeks of being in pain it was discovered that he has cancer and it was only going to get worse. I am going to miss my feisty little lad who was scared of nothing, loved everyone he met and always posed for the camera with his smile and flappy ears. We brought him home as company for Jock who is a bit shy and from the first time we saw Dan at the kennels we fell in love with this little maniac who came bounding towards us with a happy smile and his ears up, he was in a full plaster cast but that didn’t stop him. He may have been our smallest hound but he took up a lot of space in our hearts which is know empty”.Bless you Dan we shall miss your cheeky little face at our events. Run free from pain sweetheart, your life was all too short but you packed so much into it, enjoying every moment. We will never forget you. xxx
Our Man Dan September 2014 – July 2020

The sadness of another loss of one of our precious hounds descends upon us again. We have received news that Bradley (Droopy’s Bradley)’s family have had to say their final farewell to him. He has left a gaping hole in their lives but they have written this wonderful tribute below to him.

“How can we best describe our Bradley: a St Leger winner who was afraid of cats ! A dog who hated anything resembling dog food but who loved a naan bread, a sausage roll or a piece of Victoria Sponge! A greyhound who never attempted to climb on a sofa or a bed but liked to have a choice of comfy dog beds to sleep on around the house. He loved our caravan holidays and wide open spaces but hated water so much he’d walk a mile rather than through a puddle. No interest in soft toys but loved a good zoomie around the dining table. He was affectionate, calm, quiet and went everywhere off lead within two or three months of having him.

Everyone who met Bradley fell in love with him and vice versa – he believed anyone who came to our door was a new best friend.

He lit up our lives and became not only a member of our family but a best mate to us both.

Run free our dear Bradley – thank you for all the joy you have given us, the new friendships you have made happen, and the privilege of knowing you.”

Our hearts go out to Bradley’s family and we thank them for the wonderful retirement they gave him.
Sleep tight Bradders, so grateful for the cuddles we had with you just a little while ago.xxxx

What a sad year this is turning out to be. Yet again we have to give you heartbreaking news about one of our precious hounds.
Dudley’s Spark was taken far to soon on 24th June just 12 days after his 8th birthday.
His family are truly heartbroken. This is what they have said about him
“Duds as we affectionately called him loved his toys, his chewies and us, his family. He was a real Mummy’s boy who would look deep into her eyes as if he where looking into her very soul. We are missing him so much and we just can’t stop the tears from falling”

Run free from pain at the bridge dear Dudley and know your family’s love for you will remain in their hearts forever.

Dudleys Spark 12th June2012 to 24th June 2020

We can hardly believe we are having to write this. Our friend and Volunteer Angie has had to have her dear Alex put to sleep today after she was diagnosed with cancer.
This comes barely 6 weeks after Angie had to say goodbye to Alex’s brother Troy. It’s tragic and our hearts go out to her.
Alex was a sweet natured girl, not quite as outgoing as Troy and while he attended many shows and events Alex much preferred the comfort of her own home and family. Alex and Troy were so close and Alex would wash Troy’s ears for him. The only comfort to be had is that these two beautiful babies are back in each others arms and are reunited with their Dad Johnnie who absolutely adored them both, they were a great source of comfort to him when he was so gravely ill.
Dear Angie what can we say? We are truly sorry for your losses but your beautiful hounds could not have been more loved by you and we thank you for the wonderful life you gave them. xx

It is with much sadness we have to tell you that Lucky one of our longest serving Greyhound Ambassadors has passed away. Dear Lucky was such a sweet boy who worked tirelessly at shows and meet and greet sessions to promote greyhounds as pets. Lucky was also a Pets as Therapy dog who along with his best friend Flossy regularly visited local care homes. Below is his family’s tribute to him.
Our first greyhound and we could not have wished for a more loyal, loving and sweet companion. Although very upset we feel so very fortunate to have had this sweet lad share his life with us and for him to live to a good age. Sleep tight sweetheart. xx
Our hearts go out to Bryan, Gill and Flossy, they are very much in our thoughts.
May you always shine high and bright in the sky Lucky like the star that you were. You were a true Gentleman of a dog and we will all miss you so much.xxx

Today is just one of those terribly sad days that just want to end.
We have learned that another of our precious hounds has crossed the bridge.
Treacle was homed from Dillymore in 2012 where her name was Honey. A lovely placid dog and so different from her owners previous dogs which were Collies Although she was so quiet and laid-back, her family say the house seems very quiet since she has gone. Poor Treacle suffered an unfortunate accident when she slipped over on the kitchen floor and badly broke her back leg.
Our thoughts are with Treacle’s family who loved her dearly and gave her a wonderful home.
Treacle may your beautiful soul fly high and free from pain. Much love sweetheart.xxx

Yesterday was one of our saddest days when we learnt that our Volunteer and friend Angie had to say goodbye to her beautiful boy Troy after he was diagnosed with a tumour.
.
Troy was a fantastic Greyhound Ambassador whose tail never stopped wagging at the many promotional events he attended. He worked tirelessly, often not wanting to stop for a break in his quest to find homes for his kennel friends.
Our hearts go out to Angie and to Troy’s Sister Alex on their loss.

Troy you were quite simply the best, the perfect gentleman. We will never forget your sunny personality and your wonderful swagger when you walked. Thank you for all you did for us. May you now sleep soundly sweetheart cuddled up with your Dad Johnny.XXXX

To say we are devastated to have to post this tribute doesn’t come close. Our hearts go out to Sharon and Mike. To loose both of their beloved dogs within 7 weeks is truly heart breaking. Here is their tribute to their beautiful Bonnie.

We are deeply saddened to report that yesterday we had to have our dear sweet Bonnie put to sleep. 4 years ago we chose this tatty little girl to join Storm in our home. Bonnie had half a tail, half an ear missing and had just had a litter of pups of which she had a total of 34!! She loved everyone and never lost her maternal instinct always so gentle, reassuring and encouraging with her canine friends. She eventually lost all her teeth, but adapted well adding to her huge personality, just the sweetest soul. But sadly our beautiful Bonnie was diagnosed with bone cancer after going lame this week, she will run free now with Storm, who we lost 7 weeks ago, and all their friends❤ Thurlesbeg Bound 10-11-2008 to 23-04-2020

Dear sweet Bonnie what a fabulous ambassador for your beautiful breed you were. As well as Storm and your friends we hope your little daughter Kat who was sadly taken in January walks beside you now.

It is with much sadness we have to tell you that Jenny (Racing name Burgess Borna) has passed away.  Jenny was a real kennel favourite having spent much of her racing career at Dillymore.  She was much loved by all who knew her.  We will always be thankful for the wonderful retirement Jenny’s family gave her.

This is their beautiful tribute to her.

“We cannot express our heartbreak at the loss of our darling Jenny.  Jenny was  quite simply a beautiful soul, such a calm, kind and gentle girl who slotted into our family as if she’d always been there.  She adored our long walks together but was just as happy roaching on the sofa or doing quirky things to make us smile!  As long as she was with us, she was happy…and so were we.  Jenny, you taught us all so much about love, kindness and laughter, and we are devastated that our time sharing your well-deserved retirement was cut so short. Your loss leaves a void that will be absolutely impossible to fill.”

Through eyes filled with tears and hearts heavy with sadness we all send you our love Jenny.  May your beautiful soul fly free sweetheart you will never be forgotten by all those that knew and loved you. xxxxx

A sad farewell to Happy Jack (Scarra Lad). A wonderful Ambassador for Greyhounds and a much loved member of the team. Our hearts go out to Jacks family. What a wonderful but heart breaking tribute they have written below.

It is with much sadness that I have to tell you all that our beloved happy Jack passed over the rainbow bridge very suddenly. We are heartbroken. While Jack slipped away we made a promise to him that whenever we had space in our house that we would welcome more retired Greyhounds to live with us and to love them like we loved him.
Jack was our first dog and was very special. He was always happy and chilled out. He loved the greyhound walks and always wanted to be at the front! He changed our lives and touched many others with his friendly happy manner. We only had a year with him but what a wonderful year. We miss you Jack so much now run free with your friend Lola. Bless your heart Jack you were much loved by us all here at Suffolk. What a privilege it was to have known you. Sleep tight sweetheart you will be much missed and never forgotten.
